Abusive Mother is a…..Gamer? September 13, 2010

I came upon this strange story today, and immediately knew that this was blog worthy. Apparently, a mother got addicted to the game Smallworld and ended up neglecting both her kids as well as her dogs. She had been playing the game nonstop and never got around to cooking, which meant starved kids. :/ If that isn’t bad enough, she never fed the dogs either. 😦

Now, I personally think that is just ridiculous. Sure the story is very amusing (In a dark humor type of way), but we have to realize that this woman is giving gaming a bad name. Hardcore gaming is about staying up and playing online with your friends, or completing quests, or socializing, or etc etc. No matter what your flavor of gaming is, I sure hope that your priorities are set straight enough that you won’t leave your dogs, much less your kids, starved. People like this woman, give gaming a bad name by making it seem addicting. (I know, I know, games can be addicting, but in a good way 😉 ). Now I for one am very curious about Smallworld to see how this game (that I have never heard of) could entice a mother so much that she could forget about her kids. Heck, I want to see how such a game could get a mother playing at all (let’s face it, the amount of gamers who are mother is abysmally minuscule).

Nintendo 3DS is almost as powerful as the PS3 and the xbox 360? (What?!) June 7, 2010

Imagine holding a handheld gaming device with processing speeds almost as fast as the HD-capable PS3 and Xbox 360. Now Imagine that very system with the same 3D effects simmilar to that of  theatrical movies such as Avatar and How to Train Your Dragon. On top of that, Imagine that very console being made by Nintendo!? Hard to believe right?

Well apparently not! Yes thats right, according to several developers that have witnessed the 3DS in its current form, Nintendo’s soon to be released 3D handheld gaming device will have processing speeds almost as fast as the HD-capable PS3 and Xbox 360.  However, before we start jumping with excitement,  this so far has not been confirmed by Nintendo, nor do we know how valid these statements are. Yet according to ING, they have heard that the speed of the 3DS will “far exceed the Nintendo Wii”

Now it is true that the over the years as technology has advanced, we have been able to fit what once used to be large consoles into much smaller devices. As tech advances, similar power can fit into tiny spaces. Essentially we can say that the DS would be on the same level as the N64. With that in mind it would be more than reasonable to conclude that the 3DS be on the same operating level as the GameCube, right? Well according to the developers apparently not.

Nintendo Japan has confirmed that it will be releasing the New device at the end of the companies fiscal year: March 2011. So far what we have heard seems hard to believe. For now the main question is, has Nintendo really found a way to store something as powerful as a PS3 or a xbox 360 into a handheld format? In my honest opinion, perhaps they have.  It has been half a decade since we first saw this current generation of hardware, and the possibilities of Nintendo achieving this may actually be true. According to rumors, the new device was suppose to have NVIDIA Tegra chip, but IGN’s developers have so far claimed those to be false.

Over all if what we have heard is really true, and if these developers speak the truth, then we will for sure be in for a great treat in the up coming months. Knowing all this, it makes u wonder how Microsoft and Sony will react to this. On top of that who knows,  maybe Nintendo is finally ready to take on Apple and its rising fame!

Batman: The Brave and the Bold June 4, 2010

This article says Batman: The Brave and the Bold will become a game for Nintendo D.S.  This was announced by the Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment.  This game even has a two-player co-op mode.  Some of the characters to choose from are, of course: Batman, Robin, Green Lantern, and the Blue Beetle.  Players will also be able to unlock the BAT-MITE, and fight with players on the Wii Console.   This game is said to be fun, vibrant, and a great way to have “an interactive way of experiencing the cartoon’s iconic characters”.

I am excited about the coming of this game because it will be great fun for all of us Batman fans.  This game could possibly have the same scenarios from the classic and famous show, Batman: The Brave and the Bold.  What sounds even better is fighting with people on the Wii Console…. I think it could be fun to interact with other players on other game consoles.   That doesn’t happen often.  Batman has always been a lot of people’s  favorite animated character ever since the show came out.  Imagine the video game for the DS!  If you are a Batman fan I would recommend checking out this new and exciting game.

AT&T Drops Unlimited Data Plan June 2, 2010

The title says it all. Today, AT&T has announced that from now on, new customers will NOT be able to purchase the unlimited data plans for smartphones and the iPhone. Instead, AT&T is now offering a 2 gigabyte data plan for $25 monthly. AT&T says that according to their data, the 2 gigabytes is sufficient for 98% of the current unlimited data plan users. For the other 2% who have greater data needs, AT&T is offering additional gigabytes for an extra fee. The reason for this, is that AT&T’s data network is extremely congested which results in a slower 3G data network experience for some users, myself included. Another reason is that in the long term, the unlimited data plan will end up hurting AT&T in the future. For most people who don’t have smartphones the 2 gigabytes is more than sufficient for your mobile IM, Facebook, and Twitter needs. However, for the heavy smartphone and iPhone user this new policy could end up costing you lots of money, especially if you stream lots of music or videos online (obviously including YouTube videos). Also, can’t forget the new iPad. The iPad, with its new capabilities and numerous apps, will be eating your 2GB of data even quicker than your iPhone or smartphone. One thing that concerns me with this new 2 gigabyte plan is how it will affect the new iPhone HD set to come out within a few months. The iPhone HD is said to have video chatting capabilities along with the ability to play HD video, both of which will eat up your alotted 2 GB very quickly. I think this might be another development that may lead to the ultimate decision that Verizon Wireless will indeed get the new iPhone HD instead of AT&T. Verizon Wireless, AT&T’s competitor, has not made any comments about AT&T’s decision yet, but rumors are saying that it is only a matter of time before Verizon Wireless along with other major data carriers to follow suit.
